Volunteers help park with Spring Clean-up!

On Monday 3/3, an NCCC AmeriCorps team assisted park staff in getting ready for summer! On a beautiful summer-like day with the songs of spring peepers in the background, the team of 9 worked diligently to clean the YCC, weed the butterfly garden, replace more than 100 luminaries, scrub down canoes and kayaks and secure them on the new trailer. After completion of the project, the team enjoyed a leisurely hike through the park’s Fresh Water Marsh area, Tulip Tree Woods and Indian Springs Trails. The team is in training in Perry Point Maryland and will be deployed to the Gulf later this week for several months of disaster relief service.

A special thanks to Glen Stubbolo for coordinating these teams and thanks to the park staff for their assistance in this project!

Resolutions

Happy New Year! If your New Year's resolutions include donating your valuable time and expertise to a worthwhile cause why not consider volunteering at Brandywine Creek State Park? We have lots of opportunities to get involved with park projects, learn new skills and meet people all ages. Some of the current opportunities include filling the park's bird feeders,
prepping the wildlife garden for spring, trail maintenance and assisting with programs.

As the weather improves we will be looking for bluebird box monitors, special event volunteers for the Fishing Derby, Kite Day and the "extreme" adventure race tenatively scheduled for April 20 (more to come on this event soon). We are currently working on our calendar of events for 2008 and will have it available by the February volunteer meeting.
Hope to see you there!
